Ford second to none in quality: study
by Justin Pritchard auto123.com
Ford's initial quality now equals that of Toyota and Honda-representing a statistical tie for top place with the Japanese automakers. How is the quality determined? It's an interesting measure called the "Things Gone Wrong" rating-resulting in a "TGW" number per 1,000 vehicles during the first three months of ownership. Fords vehicles averaged 1,284 TGW items, statistically equivalent to the 1,250 TGW rating level of Toyota and Honda. Last year Ford tied with Toyota and this year their quality performance is as good as industry-leading Honda's too. Ford's world-class quality is one of the most important aspects of their turnaround in North America. The consistently strong quality improvement should offer today's customer renewed confidence, setting the stage for important new products coming soon.
Ford takes F150 to yet another level
Jim Kerr, The StarPhoenix
How do you take the best selling vehicle in Canada for the past five years and redesign it so that it's better? Ford had the F150 owners show the designers how they used their trucks-what they loaded in their bed, what they towed, what they had added to the trucks, and how they used the interior space. From this several key items were identified. Ford designed a folding side step that fits under the box in front of the rear wheels. Touch the button in the centre with your toe and the spring-loaded step folds out from beneath the box. Load or unload your gear and then push the step back in again with your foot. The step has a 500-pound load capacity and would be a great addition to any truck. A backup camera fits under Ford oval on tailgate and displays an image in the inside rear view mirror or on the optional Nav screen. A centre line on display enables even a novice driver to back up to a trailer the first time. The integrated trailer brake controller from the Ford Superduty is now offered on the F150 and trailer sway control is standard equipment. Yaw and roll sensors on the truck detect trailer sway. The brake controller works with the stability control system to selectively apply the trailer and truck brakes and control engine torque to bring the truck and trailer under control. The 2009 F150 is a combination of luxury, strength, boldness and innovation that builds on all those past pickups and will continue to be a key part of Ford's future. Three to six passenger pickup truck; 4.6ltr SOHC two valve V8, 4.6ltr SOHC three valve V8, 5.4ltr SOHC three valve V8; 6spd automatic, two spd transfer case, electronic locking rear axle, plus many more new features.
